I visit college campuses nationwide to get firsthand knowledge of schools and monitor the latest trends in college admission, explore new developments and programs on campuses, and meet and network with admissions staff. Here are just a few impressions of the many colleges I have visited.
CSU is home to one of the top veterinary medicine and agriculture programs in the country, and touts 70 majors. Fun Fact: Fort Collins is only one of 5 towns in the nation designated a "platinum-level bike-friendly community" and produces 70% of Colorado's craft beer. If you like access to mountains, a vibrant downtown scene, and studying alongside outdoorsy peers, CSU could be for you!
Founded by women, initially for women, Rhode Island School of Design is an internationally recognized art and design institution. Fun Fact: Students can take classes at Brown University just up the hill and their museum founded in 1877 is worth the visit alone. If you are interested in visual arts or design, the hip and progressive RISD could be for you!
I enjoyed Brown's mix of lush and urban campus. Students stroll between historical architecture and cutting-edge science and policy buildings on this intellectually involved and socially engaged campus. Fun Fact: Brown is the 7th oldest institution of higher learning in the U.S. and boasts the oldest Student Government! If you are looking for a highly selective college with Ivy League rigor, Brown could be for you!
Northeastern's unique co-op program allows students to graduate in four years with one full year of paid employment experience to put on their resumes. I was especially impressed with the tour of their new state-of-the-art science and engineering complex. Fun Fact: Northeastern's London campus is the only U.S. university with British accreditation. Northeastern also recently acquired the former Mills College in the Bay area, strategically placing students closer to opportunities in Silicon Valley. If you are interested in developing real-world experience in your field and living on a bustling urban campus, Northeastern could be for you!
